Enjoying the Simple Pleasures of Life, While Living in a Complicated World

Pizzeria at Home~Pizza Toppings

Making pizzas is a great way to spend time together with family and friends! Everyone can join in the fun!

Next time you’re entertaining, consider a pizza party!

Make plenty of Italian pizza dough and roll out 9 inch crusts (store them stacked on a cookie sheet in the refrigerator, with wax paper between crusts), and have ingredients laid out for guests to create their own pizzas with their own mix of ingredients! They make ’em, you bake ’em!

Vegetables & Cheeses
Black olives, sliced
Green olives, sliced
Fresh mozzarella in slices or ‘pearls’
Thinly sliced tomatoes
Marinated Artichokes
Mushrooms, sliced- several different varieties
Parmessan Cheese, freshy grated
Romano Cheese, freshly grated

For a gourmet quality ingredients, consider roasting vegetables for your pizza

Roasting brings out the flavors, sweetness and carmelizes most vegetables!

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. Place on a cookie sheet or large saute pan: thinly sliced vegetables, drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper! Roast vegetables for about 30-40 minutes, until cooked through and carmelized.

Time saving tip: Roast your vegetables, while you’re preheating your oven pizza pans; you’ll have all of your vegetables beautifully roasted and ready to go when you start creating your pizzas!

Excellent choices for roasting in your oven:
Garlic Cloves, still in their paper
Onions, sliced: Purple, Yellow & Vidalia

Meats add wonderful flavor

Meats for Toppings
Canadian Bacon, thinly sliced
Prosciutto, Baked or Fried Crispy
Salami & Bacon Bits
Cooked sausage slices & Ham

Remember to sprinkle your pizza peel with cornmeal, so your pizzas will glide right off and onto a hot pan on your grill or in your oven. My personal choice, which has never failed me– are cast iron pizza  pans for large pizzas, or fajita pans for small, individualized pizzas!

Baking Homemade Pizzas in Your Oven

Preheat pans in a 400 degree oven. Once your pizzas are assembled on the peel, open the oven door and push your pizza creations off the peel with a large spatula onto your preheated pans. Bake for 13-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted, and crust edges are golden.
When finished baking, remove from the oven with a large spatula, and place on a large cookie sheet. Cut and serve! Enjoy!
